Testing Strategy and Agile Development

I want an understanding on different testing strategies they can deployed in agile development methodology. Does anyone have any ideas or thoughts on what works in Agile Development and what doesnot work?

Testing

Scott has supplied some links to very good articles on testing but keep in mind that the tests being carried out must be the right one’s. How many times have we seen very well written software go unused.

Developers and their methods are very low down the scale when it comes to the causes of problems with IT projects. I would be more concerned with having a good Business Activity Model so that ultimately the right tests can be devised.

Testing Strategy and Agile Development

It largely depends on the business environment, the type of software and how long the development lifecycles are.

We employ a mix between Agile Development Methodoligies, viz. RUP and Product/Feature Driven development. Our release cycles/SDLC are quite short, about 1 every month. We use a host of testing methods throughout the development lifecycle.

Test Planning & Preparation during Inception and Elaboration.

Unit testing during end of Elaboration into Contruction.

System Integration and Automated Regression Testing during Construction iterations

Functional, Scenario, Business Rule, Negative, and Automated Testing during Construction and into Transition phases.

Factory Acceptance Testing and User Acceptance Testing in Transition iterations, and pre-production release.

The key objective to us is that we try to catch bugs or system exceptions early in the SDLC to prevent re-work later.

You should use and try what works well in your own environment. Also, try to innovate by exploring different ways of doing the same thing.
