How Now Brown Cow

by Suzanne Robertson and James Robertson

A common problem voiced by requirements analysts is: “people don’t tell me their requirements, they tell me a solution to some unstated problem”. This focus on solutions is further complicated when it is mixed together with current business constraints, technical constraints and personal perceptions of the world.

In this installment describing the Volere requirements techniques Suzanne and James Robertson  explain the “Brown Cow Model” – a simple and effective means for organizing and understanding disparate systems viewpoints.

Good method Suzanne and well explained.

Of course there is another method that has been around for some time - how do you pick out the key requirements from the mass of others. It's called the "I saw a sea shell" method.
