Project Failure: Is Technology the Answer?
by Curt Finch and April Boland
Despite the myriad advances made in project management technology in recent years, project failure rates continue to be through the roof. Each year, the CHAOS Report findings that are published by The Standish Group get worse and worse. In 2009, the number of failed IT projects was up to 68%. Does this mean that project management solutions are just a waste of time? What are we doing wrong?
Project management technology can make companies more successful than ever before, but it is only as good as the processes that support it. Too many managers believe that they can install a solution and leave it at that. The only way to enable such a solution to work is to also evaluate and address the root causes of project failure in your organization.

re: Technology, shmecknology!
Yes, technology is not magic, and incompetent people aren't fixed by great technology.
But technology isn't useless either.
It is true that executives can be inappropriately demanding at times. Sometimes that's because they're stupid.
But sometimes it's because their customers are fickle, demanding and cheap. Executives are caught in the middle
trying to win in the marketplace - which is tough to do -
with employees that want lots more money than some competitors are paying.
If you can make a globally sourced team effective my friend, you are worth your weight in gold. We all know it's hard.
