The Six Requirements Capability Areas
The six capability areas are the major contributing factors to the maturity of an organization’s requirements practice. To increase success, focus improvement efforts on the weakest capability area(s). This will also improve poor practices and reinforce existing strengths. The six requirements capabilities are:
- Process - The definition, usage, and management of requirement procedures
- Deliverables - The work set definition and actual documents produced as output from the requirement process.
- Organization - The organizational infrastructure and correspondent support of the requirements practice.
- Tools - The provision, usage, and management of software tools in the context of the requirements practice.
- Techniques - The definition, usage, and management of requirement practices and techniques. It represents the different approaches used (how) to perform the required process elements.
- Staff Competency - The knowledge, skills, and ability (KSA) of the workforce
