Free requirements management tool (beta release)

Hi

Some of you may be aware of the pragnalysis project (www.pragnalysis.com) which provides 100% free Business Analysis resources such as templates and articles.

We've recently developed a completely free, and open source, requirements management tool which we'd like to get as much feedback on as possible. Currently it's only single user and Windows only but we're working on a multi-user, multi-platform version too (any volunteers welcome!).

Please download and let us know what you think; it's not intended to compete with ReqPro, DOORS etc - our angle is more about giving BAs an alternative to using Word, Excel etc.

Comparing similar applications

Hi,

I have been assigned a project to compare three similar applications and make a recommendation as to which system is the best. The tentative approach that has been discussed is to have the business experts identify their high level core business functions and identify how these functions can be objectively measured. Then, execute the measuring of the functions and enter the "scores" into a weighted decision matrix. Some of the challenges with this project are as follows:

>One of the three apps being compared is not used by any of the business experts.
>Majority of the business experts have experience in only one of the three systems.
>I need to some how identify the gaps in each of the systems.

Buy not build - your views are sought on the best way to manage requirements

My organisation is moving from a build virtually everything to a "buy before build" strategy. Our BA team is growing. We have various levels of comfort with modelling and documentation. We need to get a baseline of skills and techniques we can all adopt quickly and use effectively.

Have any of you had experience of requirements management with a buy before build approach? I am partcularly interested in the best way to share requirements (from the purchaser) and capabilities (from the vendor)Is there a requirements language that you have found is more common or more effective with vendors throughout the process of selection and implementation?
